Hi, I am the preacher at the Fauquier Christian Church and a native of
Fauquier County. My family and I have returned from Florida, where I
graduated from Bible seminary. We now live in Catlett. To continue
the work Jesus started, I am glad to return home and plant a new congregation.
Currently, we have purchased 32 acres on route 28 in Midland, near Bealeton.
Our building will be constructed in the Spring of 2010.
The first question you may ask yourself is:
Why does Fauquier County
need another congregation
when it seems to have plenty already?
For me, the question reveals the problem. There are too many congregations or
churches that claim to be Christian. Stranger yet, they all have different
names and teachings. This seems to be confusion and division rather than the
unity that Jesus prayed for:
"I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, Father,
just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world
may believe that you have sent me. May they be brought to complete unity to let
the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
-John 17:20,21,23
The result of this confusion is all of the 600+ different denominational
churches you can find today. In fact the word “denomination” literally means
“name of division.” What’s worse
is that the most frequent causes of all this division are simply
personal
preferences,
personal
traditions, and
personal
belief
systems.
The good news is that Jesus gives us the solution to any division that might
occur between those who desire to follow him. Again in His prayer to the
Father:
“For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with
certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. Sanctify
them by the truth; your Word is truth.
-John 17:8,17
It is not through personal belief systems, or personal traditions, or personal
preferences that we can be united, rather it is through God’s Word, the Bible.
So in June of 2002, we began meeting as the unified body of Christ. Resisting
all the names of division, we take the name used in the Bible (Romans 16:16).
We are simply the Fauquier Christian Church. As Jesus clearly intended, it is a
church for everyone. People have joined us from out of the world and from
denominational churches to come together and follow Jesus as His church.
We firmly hold to the Bible only, which is the infallible Word of God, and
respect each other’s preferences in love as the Bible allows.
Ultimately, we seek to please God and support each other as brothers and sisters
in Christ. It is our hope that you will come and join us, even if it means
leaving a denomination, to make Jesus’ prayer a reality.
God Bless and hope to see you soon,
Jeff Wickert
